VicUrban

VicUrban Award
Artists can bring extraordinary perspectives and interpretations to our shared experience of urban life. In the everyday context of laneways, streets, squares and parks, art can engage the imagination, reveal meaning, raise questions and play with the senses.

High quality urban design and memorable public art are distinctive features of VicUrban’s growth and renewal projects. As the State Government’s sustainable development agency, VicUrban is a recognised leader in these fields.

VicUrban involves artists in its urban development projects through:
(a) planning and design collaborations
(b) site-specific commissions
(c) community projects and other arts and cultural initiatives.

VicUrban is pleased to support the Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture through the inaugural VicUrban Award, which will provide a Melbourne Prize finalist with the opportunity to gain significant professional experience in the collaborative development of ‘urban sculpture’.

The VicUrban Award is an invitation to a selected finalist from 2008 Melbourne Prize to participate in a research project relating to a specific VicUrban development. The artist’s brief will be prepared in late 2008 and the successful artist will be professionally engaged to undertake the research project in 2009*.

*VicUrban reserves the right to not make any invitations. Final decision regarding selected finalist is at the discretion of VicUrban. There is no obligation on VicUrban to engage with or commission any artist.
